What began as a discussion with Antonios Baxevanidis on the wonderful writer Thanasis Papastergiou ended up throwing me on a journey of psychological exploration, in particular when I began to read CHRISTMAS, a short story by Thanasis Papastergiou.  What I encountered was a surreal story, very visual, on an ageing man confronted with loneliness on Christmas Day.  In order to fill his life with some semblance of normality, he prepares gifts, organises a luncheon for his family and attempts to connect with them.  Through the story the audience witnesses a man grappling with reality, emotional torment, illusion and the power of his ancestors on his state of mind.  This got me thinking about reality and I figured that in order to discover our reality, we much explore our illusions, thus began the adaptation of 'Christmas' into a screenplay.

There were many drafts, many readers and many ideas that travelled backwards and forwards, until finally the script made sense and flowed.  I began to see the film in my head, and at that point I knew that it was ready to be made into a film.  From the opening scene to the closing scene I could see each character, nuance, light, demeanour, concept and thought transgress onto film.  A photo shoot was organised to create a poster that was best going to encapsulate the character's emotions on this day.  Michael Marlborough did an amazing job on the shoot, and Juliette Dimadis, my daughter, touched up the imagery to create a fantastic poster.  I've used this as the image for the POZIBLE campaign, and on day one, I must admit am feeling a little nervous as the concept goes live to the public.  I do know though, that if the funds are raised, it will become a phenomenal film.  It is a rare film where old age is explored, in particular the mind of an ageing man and the impact that this can have on his life.  At some point as we all go through life, and find ourselves at the edge where youth has disappeared and in its place become of an age where we have lost everyone and are alone, what will we do, or more importantly what options will we have?  

I think it is an important film to contribute to, so join with me to collaboratively create a work that will undoubtedly leave an impact on every viewer.

Cruella

Cruella “Cruella was in a box a long time, now Estella can be the one who makes guest appearances!” -Cruella Every so often, a film encapsulates all of the factors that make it ‘wow’, leaving the audience totally satisfied.  Cruella, directed by Craig Gillespie, starring Emma Stone, Emma Thompson, screenplay by Dana Fox and Tony McNamara, produced by Disney does exactly that. It was released in Australia on May the 27th, 2021, not the best year for a release due to the Pandemic and inherent lockdowns in this country, but nevertheless a real treat on any screen. The film follows Estella before she becomes Cruella De Vil; a gifted, precocious girl whose rebellious streak, fighting spirit and desire to become a fashion designer is the perfect mix for her journey through life.  She was orphaned at 12 from whom she thought was her biological mother, but of course the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree and with the help of her two childhood partners, Horace and Jasper, Estella e...
